After the Industrial revolution and urbanization, its observed that majority of the economic losses are from the natural catastrophes. With the increase in the global temperatures, the frequency of and losses resulting from the weather events will rise. This statistics show the econmic losses caused by global weather Catastrophes between 2000 to 2019. In 2011, we could see loss more than 450 billion USD dollars. Also, the number of weather Catastrophes events increases linearly in the last 10 years. Over the last 10 years, World is witnessing an extreme imbalnce in the weather patterns.
The Global Climate Risk Index (CRI) analyzes to what extend countries and regions have been affected by impacts of weather related loss events like storms,floods, heat waves etc. This statistics displays the CRI for period of 2014 to 2018, colored by the countries and compared againist the absolute losses of the countries. In 2018, Japan has been affected badly with three strong extreme weather events like floods, a severe heat wave and typhoon Jebi. Its followed by Phillipines as well as Germany. For the last 10 years, most affected countries are Puerto Rico, Myanmar, and Haiti.
